Parameters

  • By checking the box “automatically detect default locations for saved/downloaded files and save files to these locations outside the sandbox” you can make sure that files saved or downloaded while working in the sandbox will be saved outside the sandbox. In other words, the process of saving or downloading files to these locations will not be virtualized. This box is checked by default, but if unchecked, any files that you save or download while working in virtualization mode will not actually be saved.
  • You can also ensure that applications that are run inside the sandbox are run in a window inside a red border. This way you can clearly see when an application is being run in the sandbox.
  • Optionally, you can also specify that a special tag will appear in the name of any application that is being run in the sandbox.
  • By checking the box “Integrate into the right-click context menu…” on the Parameters screen, you can add the virtualization option to the context menu. You can add this option for all users, or only for users with administrator rights. This will enable you to run an application in the sandbox by simply right-clicking it and selecting “Run virtualized”.

At the bottom of the screen there are some additional settings for WEB BROWSERS.

Normally, whenever an application is launched in the sandbox, avast! creates a special sandbox storage area for that application and where virtualized files/folders are saved. This sandbox storage is then normally deleted when the application is terminated. If the box “Store files in special storage in the sandbox…” is checked, a completely separate sandbox storage will be used for web browsers and this will not be automatically deleted when the browser is terminated. This means that the next time the browser is launched, it will use the same sandbox storage from the previous browser session, which will therefore improve the browser’s performance.

Here you can specify that some options should not be virtualized when running your web browser in the sandbox e.g. bookmarks, browsing history, and cookies. This means that even when running your web browser in the sandbox, these options will not be virtualized and will be available to any other browsing sessions which are open or which are opened later, whether inside the sandbox or outside.
